Can I Get California Disability If I Quit, Was Fired, or Stopped Working?

Not currently working does not automatically rule out California Disability Insurance. EDD states that someone who quit or was laid off may still file a claim, but the person generally must have been working or looking for work when the disability began and must meet the other DI eligibility requirements. EDD makes the eligibility decision. Work Leave Care can evaluate mental health symptoms and work functioning; it does not decide eligibility.
