    Referral Resources for California Professionals

A Clear Referral Path When Mental-Health Symptoms Interfere With Work

Work Leave Care provides psychologist-led evaluation, treatment and clinical follow-up for California adults whose mental-health symptoms are significantly affecting their ability to work. We make it simple for professionals to share an appropriate resource without adding another complicated process to their workload.

Clients may also contact Work Leave Care directly. A referral does not guarantee certification, leave approval or disability benefits. All recommendations are based on an independent clinical evaluation.

When Work Leave Care May Be Appropriate

Consider sharing Work Leave Care when an adult’s mental-health symptoms are creating substantial difficulty with attendance, concentration, emotional regulation, decision-making, interpersonal functioning or the ability to perform usual work responsibilities.

    • Mental-health symptoms are significantly disrupting work functioning
    • The individual is struggling to continue working safely or consistently
    • A clinician wants a specialized referral option for work-related functional concerns
    • The individual may benefit from psychologist-led evaluation and treatment
    • The current provider does not offer work-leave evaluations or related documentation
    • A union member, employee or client needs a clear place to begin seeking mental-health care

Work Leave Care independently determines whether services are clinically appropriate. Documentation or leave-related recommendations are provided only when supported by the evaluation, applicable professional standards and the individual clinical circumstances.

    A Simple Three-Step Process

    1. Share Work Leave Care

Send the individual the Work Leave Care referral guide, website or secure scheduling link. Professionals do not need to determine eligibility before sharing the resource.

    2. The Client Schedules Directly

The individual completes Work Leave Care’s intake and schedules an appointment through the existing secure process.

    3. Work Leave Care Evaluates and Guides Next Steps

A licensed psychologist completes an independent evaluation and discusses treatment and recommendations with the client.

When the client provides appropriate written authorization, Work Leave Care may coordinate with an existing treating professional when clinically helpful.
